Apni Chhat Apna Ghar — Rs 15 Lakh Interest-Free Loan, Apply Online Complete Guide
Listen to this article:
Every month, the rent leaves your hand for a house that will never carry your name. Year after year, the same money — and at the end, nothing is yours. Now imagine the same monthly amount building four walls on your own plot, under your own roof, in your children’s name. That imagination is exactly what Punjab’s Apni Chhat Apna Ghar scheme was built to turn into reality: an interest-free loan of up to Rs 15 lakh for families who own a small plot but have no money to build on it.
I am not going to sell you this scheme like an advertisement. In this article I will lay out its strong points honestly, and its hard points just as honestly — because a loan, even an interest-free one, is a seven-year commitment, and you should walk into it with both eyes open.

The scheme was launched by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on 21 August 2024 and is run by the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency, PHATA.
The strong points — why families trust this scheme
It is genuinely interest-free. You borrow 15 lakh, you return 15 lakh. In a country where bank markup eats families alive, this single fact changes the entire mathematics of building a home.
The installment was set inside a poor family’s real reach. Rs 14,000 a month is close to what many families already pay as rent for someone else’s house. According to Pakistan Today of October 7, 2026, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz herself pointed to this affordable installment as the reason the program’s recovery rate is more than 99 percent — families are repaying willingly, because the number was designed around their lives.
The scale is proven, not promised. According to the statement of Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin reported on October 16, 2026, more than Rs 284.4 billion in interest-free loans have been given to over 217,000 families; 126,239 houses have been completed and 57,910 more are nearing completion, while applications have crossed 1.528 million. According to Pakistan Today, the scheme also received the UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour in September 2026. The government’s five-year target is 500,000 houses, so this is a running program that keeps expanding — not a one-season announcement.
The hard points — what nobody tells you at the start
No plot, no loan. This scheme builds on a plot you already own. It does not buy you land, and it does not apply to a ready-made house or flat. If you don’t own a plot yet, this is not your scheme today — read my verdict section below for where to look instead.
The plot size caps are strict. Up to 5 marla in a city area, up to 10 marla in a village area. A 7 marla urban plot, however perfect otherwise, does not fit.

The money comes in stages, not in one hand. The loan is released in construction tranches as the house progresses — foundation stage first, then as the structure rises. This protects the program, and honestly it protects you from spending ahead of the work, but it means you cannot plan the whole build around day-one cash.
Your plot is pledged during the loan. The processing is done through partner organizations named on the official portal, including Akhuwat, the Bank of Punjab, NRSP and RCDP. During processing, the plot is pledged and guarantee cheques are taken — the normal security method for an interest-free loan of this size. Don’t be surprised by it, and complete every formality carefully and honestly.
The queue is very, very long. With more than 1.5 million applications received, waiting is real and processing genuinely takes time. Apply with patience, keep your tracking information safe, and use the free helpline 0800-09100 for status instead of paying anyone who promises to “speed up” your file. Nobody can.
My verdict: who should apply, and who should wait
Apply with full confidence if you own a plot in your own name within the size limits, you are a Punjab resident and head of your family, you don’t already have a proper house of your own, and your household can carry Rs 14,000 a month for seven years without breaking its food and school budget. For this family, this scheme is the single best housing opportunity the government has ever put on the table.
Wait, and look elsewhere first, if you have no plot (this loan cannot create one), or your real pressure is monthly food cost — in that case my Punjab Ration Card guide will help you more immediately — or if what you actually need is business capital, for which my PM Youth Loan Scheme guide is the right door.
Applying, without any agent
The application is online and free, and it takes less time than reading the agent’s visiting card. Open the official portal acag.punjab.gov.pk — this is the only official website, so check the address letter by letter against fake look-alike sites. Create your account and fill the form with your personal details, CNIC information, family details and plot information, exactly as written on your documents; a small spelling difference between the form and the registry papers creates big delays later. Submit, and note your application or tracking information somewhere safe. Your case then goes into verification of plot ownership and eligibility. If approved, the processing partner completes the documentation with you, the tranches start with your construction, and after the loan completes your monthly installment runs for 7 years. Pay it on time, every month — your clean record is your honor in this system, and it keeps the door open for the next family in line.

Questions I am asked about this scheme
Q. I have a plot of 7 marla in a city. Can I apply?
The urban limit is up to 5 marla, so a 7 marla urban plot does not fit this scheme’s criteria. In rural areas the limit is up to 10 marla.
Q. Can I take this loan to buy a ready-made house or flat?
No. This loan is only for building a house on a plot you already own.
Q. Is there really no interest at all? Not even hidden charges in the name of fees?
The scheme is an interest-free loan scheme — you repay the same amount you take, in monthly installments over 7 years. That is its official design, and the reason its recovery rate is above 99 percent according to the Chief Minister.
Q. I applied long ago and heard nothing. What should I do?
Call the toll-free helpline 0800-09100 with your CNIC and application details, and check your status on the same portal from where you applied. With more than 1.5 million applications received, processing genuinely takes time for many families.
My honest last word: a home of your own is not just a building — it is the roof under which your children’s whole future feels safe. If you hold the plot, this scheme deserves your most serious attempt. And if your house is already rising through it, tell us your stage in the comments — foundation, walls, roof — because your progress is the proof the next family in the queue is waiting to see.
