BISP Beneficiaries Protest: Alleged BISP Payment Deductions and Harassment

At a government school in Sector 5-E of New Karachi, dozens of women protested, claiming widespread corruption and wrongdoing in the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) grant distribution process.
After beneficiaries said that employees at the payment center were illegally taking between Rs2,000 and Rs3,000 from the allotted financial help, a protest broke out. Additionally, a number of women accused the officials of coercion and harassment, claiming they were intimidated and asked to enter separate rooms.
Personnel from the Bilal Colony Police Station, including DSP New Karachi and other district administration officials, arrived at the area as soon as they received news of the demonstration.
Police have initiated an official investigation and are gathering testimony from the impacted parties, according to a statement released by SSP Central Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqui.
According to SHO Nasir Khan, the women’s statements have been recorded, and senior authorities will receive a thorough report. He promised that after the accusations are confirmed by an investigation, legal action will be taken.
Social media videos depict women in obvious agony as they talk about their experiences and call on the government to punish those in charge accountable. Numerous trips to the center without obtaining their due payments were recorded by a few beneficiaries.
Serious questions concerning openness and oversight in the BISP payment procedure have been brought up by this occurrence. In order to safeguard vulnerable receivers from exploitation, civil rights organizations and welfare groups have demanded an impartial investigation and changes to the aid distribution system.
The demonstration has brought attention to structural problems with welfare fund distributions as well as the pressing need for increased accountability and beneficiary rights protection.
