Imran Khan’s Physical Remand Not Possible: Supreme Court

Islamabad: The Supreme Court has stated that since it has been a year and a half since Imran Khan’s arrest, there is no justification for seeking his physical remand at this stage.

The hearing was held in the Supreme Court on the Punjab government’s appeals for the physical remand of Imran Khan. During the proceedings, Justice Hashim Kakar remarked that such a request is not appropriate after such a long period. He added that the Punjab government can approach the trial court if it wishes.

While disposing of the appeals, the court clarified that if the Punjab government decides to approach the trial court again, Imran Khan’s legal team has the right to oppose the request.

The Prosecutor General of Punjab argued that photogrammetric, polygraphic, and voice matching tests of Imran Khan were needed. Justice Hashim Kakar responded by pointing out that the current petition only requested physical remand, and there was no mention of conducting such tests.

Justice Salahuddin Panhwar added that even in murder or adultery cases, such tests are rarely conducted, and expressed hope that the government would show the same level of efficiency in handling the cases of ordinary citizens.
